Then you had to decide to make a insect or a summer scene out of the objects you collected. I chose summer scene. Then you got to name your summer scene or insect anything you want to. I named my summer scene 'Majestic river'. I hope you like my summer scene! and feel free to comment on my blog!

SLJ - Tānerore & Summer

Kia ora! This is one of my summer learning journey tasks for today! It is all about Tānerore and summer. For this task I had to create a Koru pattern then I had to make the pattern repeat. For the background I had to change the colours to what I think represents summer and/or Tānerore. I hope you enjoy my pattern! and feel free to comment on my blog!

SLJ - Optical Illusion

Kia ora! This is one of my summer learning journey tasks for today! For this task I had to create my own illusion and then explain how it works. This illusion works because the contrast of the different colours.

So when you look at the illusion for long enough you will sometimes only see white triangles and a black background or only black triangles and a white background. I hope you enjoy this illusion! and feel free to comment on my blog!

Term 4 extension reflection 2020

Kia ora! This terms topic is Art Alive. We have been learning about lots and lots of different art forms.

I have really enjoyed this year. My favourite highlights was being an ambassador and camp. I really enjoyed being an ambassador because we had lots of fun with our audience and sometime they would give us some treats.

Today we also had a shared lunch for Secret Santa! It was really fun and the food was delicious. I didn't get my present yet because I have to wait until the end of this week.

A few days ago I went on a trip with lots of other people who helped look after the eels. I was invited because my friends and I made a movie about eels. I was the only one who came. We took the eels to a beach. We sang some songs and then watched the people release the eels into the sea.

Unfortunately one of the eels died. It's not that bad because it was a natural cause. The eel had worms inside of it making it sick and un healthy. Next year Pt England is going to prevent this by getting the next set of eels wormed.

I am really happy about how I ended this year.

Art exhibition - Term 4 2020

Fakalofa lahi atu! This post is about the art exhibition we had today! This photo is of me and my art. Do you like it?, I hope so. We had this event after morning tea.

We checked out all of the art around the entire school. It was awesome! When I looked at some of the juniors art I remembered all the cool and fun art I did when I was year 2. I missed all of that fun because now since we're older the art isn't that fun but I still kind of enjoyed it. The juniors art was my favourite!

My teams art is about patterns from different cultures. We had five cultures to do. Maori, Niuean, Samoan, Tongan and Cook Islands.  Once we have finished drawing our art we had to write down the meaning. Then we glued it on a cardboard and that was our art!

Class animation 2020 Term 4 - Art Alive Panels!

Kia ora! This is my art alive animation for this term! I created 5 panels. Each of them come from a different culture and they have different meanings. The 5 cultures are , Maori, Niuean, Samoan, Tongan and Cook Islands.

I hope you enjoy my art work! and feel free to comment on my blog!

Maori:

This kowhaiwhai design was created by a Maori lady named Sandy Rodgers. The eye motif represents looking towards the future. The double koru design represents the mother and child. This is a symbol of protection, safety and guidance.

Niuean:

Hiapo is the Niuean word for Tapa cloth. The patterns on this hiapo represents the plants on the island. There are alot of repeating patterns and shapes like circles and triangles. There is a lot of detail in this hiapo.

Samoan:

In Samoan culture the men get a tattoo done called a Pe’a. The women's tattoo is called a Malu. This design is based on a flower called a frangipani or a hibiscus flower.

Tongan:

Cook Island:
Tivaevae is the art of quilting in the Cook Islands. Sometimes they are made individually or by groups of women. They are given as gifts on special occasions like birthdays and weddings. This tivaevae has flowers and leaves on it. Sometimes the patterns are repeating.

Art Alive artwork - Extension

This is my digital art for extension for term 4. The background on the right represents my Niuean culture. The images include a coconut tree, frangipani flowers, a hiapo pattern sun, clouds and the ocean.

The background on the left represents my Kiwi side. I am not Maori but I was born in New Zealand. This background includes a mountain, a pohutukawa tree, two pukeko, water, grass and some clouds.

My whole artwork represents where I come from and what my culture is. A Hiapo is a Niuean Tapa cloth and is used for special occasions. My artwork also means 'Even though I am away from my country I will still carry my culture with me'

Local Matters

Year 6 camp at Camp Bentzon was such an amazing experience! I loved every single bit of it.

On Tuesday morning it was a nice bright sunny day. I was so excited because it was the day that we were leaving for camp! I quickly got up and got changed.

My dad dropped us (My Mum, Brother and I) off at school. Once we arrived I said goodbye and kissed him on the cheek. Kris and I got our big bags and loaded it on the bus that had already arrived. Everyone who was going to Kawau Island hopped into the bus. The bus ride was going to be around 1 hour and 30 minutes so I got comfy.

After ages we finally got to our destination. We were at a place called Sandspit ( yes an odd name). We exited out of the bus and loaded our bags onto a big ferry. I sat on the top level and enjoyed the view. It was so fascinating.

When we arrived at Camp Bentzon we took all of the luggage and set it down on the big deck. After that, everyone had to go on a hike up killer mountain. I was already tired after two steps but I kept on going. We reached the ancient pile of stones. It represents how much people survived Killer mountain. Atawhai, one of the campers, took a rock and said a blessing and then placed it proudly on top of the pile.

After that we had a little snack. Once we were all charged up we continued to walk. We were heading to a beach that was near. I was so exhausted. As soon as we got to the beach we all ate lunch. For a while everyone mucked around and chased each other. Once it was time to go we grabbed our bags and walked sadly back to the campsite.

We were all sad because the hike was tiring and we had to go all the way back. My friend Sophie, Milz and I got lost together so we had to navigate our way back. We almost made a mistake but luckily at the end we made it. We also called ourselves the Navigation sisters.

I was very tired but excited because it was time to see our cabins. I went inside of the building and went upstairs to the rooms. I looked for my name. “Yay! I exclaimed, I was with Gabby, Jade, Finau and Sophie! Even though some of my other friends weren't there I was still happy that I was with some friends.

We all got changed into our togs because we were going for a swim! I packed everything and went outside and lined up. We went to the ocean and rushed in. It was so cold but refreshing. My friends and I played games and jumped off the pontoon.

It was so fun. We all got sent out of the water to have a shower and get changed. Next we sat down on the deck in our teams. I was the leader for team Katz along with my buddy leaders, Kiarah, Jezer and Julius.  There were 4 teams, Katz, Mansion, Kawau and Bentzon.

One by one we got into the dinning room. We lined up to eat dinner. There was chicken, Potatoes, Vegetables and dessert (Dessert was my favourite). For dessert we had Ice cream, Chocolate sauce, wafers, apple crumble, Jelly and sprinkles!

After dinner we all got sent to another room. We were told that we were going to watch a movie. I was so excited to see which movie we were going to watch. Turns out it was an old movie but it was actually very enjoyable. It was a mix of Comedy, Drama, Horror, romance and thriller!

The Movie was called ‘The Princess Bride’. After the movie we all went upstairs and went to sleep in our new rooms.

Halloween and my SUPER SCARY (wink) COSTUME!!!

Kia ora! This post is about my Halloween from a few days ago. I wasn't sure if I wanted to wear a pick up alien costume or be a bunch of grapes. I decided to be a bunch of grapes! when I was creating my costume my mum helped me. I used balloons and green ribbons.

After a while there was a knocking sound at the door. My mum and I hurried to the door. She gave me the bowl of treats. I opened the door and shouted "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!" When I looked at them they looked a little bit confused. I showed a sign that my mum and I made that said 'Grapes for sale!'

It wast three of my cousins and my aunty and uncle. My aunty loved my costume because she thought that it was cute. I also thought it was quite cute and a bit funny.

I gave all of them a handful of candy. They came inside and we took a super scary photo. I always like to be the odd one out so I was standing out as a proud bunch of grapes.

Immersion assembly recount - Term 4

Sponsorship of Point England School — Bright Foundation

As we entered the hall on the first day of term 4 I could hear the powerful music playing. I sat down filled with excitement and waited until the assembly started. I was so excited because it was time for an immersion assembly! What is an immersion assembly? You might be asking. Well an immersion assembly is an assembly where all teams had to create a movie to explain to everyone about what they are learning about this term!

It was also exciting because the topic we were learning about was called ‘Art Alive’ and of course… I LOVE ART! So now you should know what an immersion assembly is for us. It was time to start the Assembly. First we did the introduction and stuff before we started watching the movies.

Finally it was time! First team was… Team 1! Team one’s movie showed the teachers recreating famous art by using different objects and backgrounds, Which I thought was pretty cool. One of my Favourite recreations was probably The Scream. After the Movie

Team 2! I was curious about what team 2 was going to do for this term. Their movie was also pretty cool, but what was different was that they had multiple kinds of art they could do. I forgot the names but one of the options was to create art using coloured rice powder! (I wish I could do that). Another art they could do was to create a portrait but on one half it is dark and sad colour and on the other half it will be nice bright and happy colours.

Next was Team 3. Team 3’s movie was my personal favourite. I loved how they used water guns and put dye in it to shoot the dye on a white sheet making it colourful! At the end of the movie the teachers showed the finished artwork. It had a colourful background with a rainbow, some birds and a little bridge which was a nice touch.

It was time for my! Yes, MY team’s movie will be played. I was PUMPED to find out what we were going to do for this term. Before the movie started Mr Goodwin stood up and said a few words, And OF COURSE, OBVIOUSLY THEY FORGOT, they forgot to make a movie. Luckily Mr Goodwin recorded the meeting he had with the other team 4 teachers in the holidays. The meeting was about them figuring out what should team 4 do for this term. Mr Goodwin used that footage and quickly made it into a little movie which I thought was a GREAT SAVE.

Last lucky last. Team 5. Most people know that team 5 always does an act instead of a movie. I wondered what they were going to do this time. It was about a person who was on the job to look after the art museum and all that stuff. A person arrives and asks about the art. The untrained supervisor decided to look at the papers filled with information about the art. So pretty much it was all about ‘What does this art represent and mean?’. They also had costumes on. The best costume was on Mrs Telea. She was wearing a full on Samoan costume that looked super duper cool and that was the immersion assembly.

Holiday recount - Writing practice!

The New Mutants Director Josh Boone on a Possible Streaming Release | Den of Geek

During the holidays I got to go to the movies! I was going with my mum, my brother and my aunty. We were all so excited. It was a whole day full of fun! The movie was great and the snacks were delicious. Let me tell you about that special day.

On an ordinary day my mum came and told me that we were going to the movies! I was so excited that I was jumping up and down. I quickly told Kris to get dressed. I darted towards my room and got changed. I was too distracted thinking about the movies that I put anything on. Mum came and also explained that our aunty, aunty Wylma was going to pick us up! “Sweet!” I exclaimed.

Once aunty Wylma arrived I ran outside to hop inside of her car. Before I could do that mum said to “do you really want to wear that” Oh no! What's wrong with my clothes!?! I was thinking. I was starting to stress out so I looked at the mirror and said “What is it?” Mum said “ Your clothes don’t really match. I said it's fine I will just be going multicoloured.

We all hopped inside aunty Wylmas car. She showed Kris and I a list of movies we could watch. Kris recommended a movie called ‘ The new mutant’. We all liked the trailer so we decided that that was going to be our movie. The movie was rated for 13+ so if you’re younger and if you have no super vision you can not watch the movie. Anyways we drove to Countdown to buy some snacks. I am not going to tell you about that because that is not important. After shopping for some snacks we quickly drove to the movies.

We had to walk before we reached the amazing cinema. Once we got our tickets we went up to the counter to get some MORE snacks. I could hear the popping sound of the popcorn which was really satisfying. We got our snacks and drinks and headed to our seats. We were a bit early so we had to wait outside for a bit. After a while we walked in and sat down.

It was such an amazing experience because we were the only one’s there because we arrived first. As more people entered I kept on chewing on my popcorn. The movie finally started. The movie  was so cool. *SPOILER ALERTS!* It was about a new mutant who woke up inside of a hospital ( well that's what she thought) she had powers that she didn’t know she had. There were others that also had magic powers. She made a friend. Suddenly everyone's nightmares were alive. It was very frightening. At the end they had to fight the biggest nightmare which was Danny’s nightmare (The new mutant). They also found out her power but I will not tell you. If you want to find out her power you have to watch the movie ‘The new mutant’.

After the movie we went to the arcade. Me and Kris got to spend 20 dollars each while our mum and aunty waited outside. I wasn’t focused on the tickets, I was only focused on winning something that I could take home like toys. I went to the claw machines to try to win a toy. I walked around to look for better claw machines. Suddenly I saw something outstanding! From the corner of my eye. I turned to it. It was a huge pacman machine. You could try to grab out a huge pacman or ghost! It was so cool.

I tried and tried but nothing worked. It was SO SO close but yet so far away. Kris kept on saying “you sure you wanna stop?, you might win it” which gave me the courage to keep going. I was up to one dollar left and I was like ‘THATS IT!, I'M NOT GOING TO USE THIS LAST COIN ON THAT MACHINE!’ I was so upset that I only had one more coin left. I used it on this big colorful game. I could win up to a few hundred tickets I think. I put all my hope and courage in that coin. My eyes sparked hoping that it will give me a bunch of tickets.

“Nooo!, Only 2 tickets?!” I shouted. I frowned with disappointment. After a while Kris FINALLY acted like the big brother he was supposed to be and nicely gave me 15 tickets so I could have 17 tickets. I said thank you! And we both walked back to our mum and aunty. I was so excited to see what I could get with my tickets. Kris had around 40 something tickets and I had 17. We walked over to the machine that gave your prizes.

We looked at it and both frowned it was too expensive. Even Kris couldn’t get anything. We slowly walked back to our mum and aunty. They asked “Did you get anything?” Kris and I replied disappointingly “no, We don’t have enough tickets” Mum said “ Can’t you add them together?” We weren't sure so our mum and aunty Wylma took us there and tried it. (By the way we had receipts that had the amount of tickets we won) We scanned both of the tickets.

It worked! Haa ray! I was so happy. Even though we could only get a small prize it was a small prize that represented kindness. We decided to get a little packet of gummies to share. It was delicious! I was happy that we at least got something after spending 40 dollars.

Conclusion:

I had a great time. I felt so happy and excited. I would love to go to the movies again. I learnt that next time when I go to the arcade I should focus on getting the tickets instead of the toys. Also I would like to say thank you to Kris for his act of kindness! And if you want to know what we did after that comment and tell me.
